The Phra Lak Phra Lam or the Rama jataka is a popular text in Laos recited by the monks during the Buddhist lent at different monasteries along the Mekong Valley.4 From the dates given in thecolophons of manuscripts D and H, it is evident that the text continued to be copied in the 19th and 20th century. In 1891 and 1934, two new palm-leaf Wat Phra Kaew Thai: วัà¸à¸à¸£à¸°à¹à¸à¹à¸§, RTGS: Wat Phra Kaeo, pronounced [wát.pÊ°ráÊ.kÉÌËw] â, commonly known in English as the Temple of the Emerald Buddha and officially as Wat Phra Si Rattana Satsadaram, is regarded as the most sacred Buddhist temple in Thailand.The complex consists of a number of buildings within the precincts of the Grand Palace in the historical Phra Lak Phra Ram is named after two principal characters, the brothers Phra Lak, or Lakshaman, and Phra Ram, or Rama. Since Phra Ram is considered the hero, it is believed the altered name was chosen for euphony.
