[NOTICE] Season 31 Competitive Changes - Dec 2020

Hello SEA Mercs,

Following Community Feedback on the issues of a less than ideal matchmaking system, ELO Boosting and the difficulty of finding matches in Clan War, we will be making some carefully considered and calibrated changes to the Competitive system from Season 31 onwards. We will, however, be actively monitoring all feedback to these changes after its implementation and this system can be further changed again next time.

Outline of changes:

1. Hard reset of all players’ ELO Points - This is to ensure that everyone starts off from a level playing field following the revamp of the system. We will continue to perform a hard reset at regular intervals (~every 6 months).

2. Competitive Squads will be limited to a maximum of 2 players, as compared to the current system that allows for a maximum of 5 players. Games will still remain as 5v5.

We believe that these change to the Competitive system is more in line with the intended design of the ELO point system, that it should be a good reflection of one’s individual skill. This also limits the advantage that some players have by intentionally ELO Boosting. We will also be setting up a number of 5-man public Discord voice channels in our BlackShot Discord Server (https://discord.gg/blackshot) for squads to get together in a common Discord server to communicate more easily. We recommend everyone join and make full use of it to enhance communication with your squad during Competitive matches.

We understand that many will want to play with their friends in a pre-made 5 man team, this is why we would strongly recommend Clan War to be used for such a purpose. To support this, we will also be making further improvements to Clan War in 2021. Upcoming plans include the mercenary system, clan quests & rewards and also improvements to the clan management system. More details on this will be released in the future.

However, as we mentioned earlier, while these changes will be implemented in Season 31, we will ensure that all feedback is carefully considered and addressed. Hence, please feel free to leave any of your comments on our Facebook Group post (https://www.facebook.com/groups/1037396586682384/permalink/1069647230123986) or down below.

Thank you.
